Enveloping and spiritual light for the Ahmed Al-Fateh Grand Mosque

LedsC4 in collaboration with Lighting Art Artic Design and YQ Art has illuminated the façade of the Great Mosque Ahmed Al-Fateh. The mosque is the largest place of worship in Bahrain and one of the largest in the world. It was inaugurated by the late Sheikh Isa ibn Salman Al Khalifa in 1988 and named after Ahmed Al Fateh, the conqueror of Bahrain. The monument is located in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, known as the meeting point of cultures in the Persian Gulf.

This centre of Islamic worship, consisting of a mosque, a department of Koranic studies and an Islamic library, reflects the modernisation policy adopted by the Kingdom of Bahrain while preserving the Islamic values and Arab character of the country.

The concept of this project was to endow the space with serenity and tranquillity, to transmit the spirituality that this centre evokes. The light had to convey a placid emotion to the faithful and visitors, which has been achieved with the proposal of linear collections with a warm 2700K light. In addition to enveloping the monument, a feeling of gentle light has been achieved, which softly highlights the architectural structure and the noble materials of the façade. The crown of the monument is made by the world's largest fibreglass dome, which has been illuminated with a cool colour temperature of 4000K. The dome's lighting design represents a reflection of the sky, which provides a spiritual dialogue for every worshipper who visits the mosque.
