The firm delivers a lighting design for the gardens of Grec 2019, which takes its inspiration from the genres of theatre: satire, comedy and tragedy.
LedsC4 is one of the festival’s official sponsors, alongside Nissan, Free Damm, Betevé, Time Out and El Periódico, among others.
Drawing audiences of more than 115,000 people in 2018, the international Grec Festival consists of theatre, dance, music and circus. With a long history as a cornerstone of the city’s cultural life, Grec has become the main summer attraction in Barcelona and a leading performing arts event in Europe.
The LedsC4 lighting consultancy department has taken its inspiration for this project from three of the main theatre genres: satire, comedy and tragedy. It aims to mirror the festival culture and transport the ambience of the productions performed in the amphitheatre to the gardens and communal areas.
Tragedy is associated with the colour red and is situated in the restaurant. Tron is used for the columns, a range of luminaires that provides a linear wholly-lit wall effect to achieve a stylish and precise gradient on vertical architectural surfaces. The portable luminaires, Night, are placed on the restaurant tables of the Grec gardens to create a warm ambience.
Comedy, symbolised by green because of the positive concepts traditionally associated with this colour, is brought to the garden area. One of LedsC4’s latest outdoor developments this year, Zoom, is used to enhance areas of the landscape with great precision through the luminaire’s reduced dimensions and integrated lens. Hubble Cob Led, a multi-functional spotlight intended for outdoor residential use, is also included in this area. Its visor optimises visual comfort and greatly reduces any dazzle. The lighting effect of both these luminaires embellishes the trees and plants, the most emblematic part of the Grec gardens.
Satire, represented by the colour blue, has been used to light the pathway to the amphitheatre and places where the audience goes during the intervals. Cube lighting is used, a cubic spotlight from the Outdoor collection with an innovative, compact and timeless design. The extensive range of sizes and lenses make the luminaire suitable for this type of project.
