LedsC4 receives the Ola award for the best 360º project for its contribution to the recovery of the oceans

The award recognises his creative lighting installation Ona, made from 98,505 plastic bottles recovered from the sea, which was on display at the last edition of the Grec Festival in Barcelona

For the third consecutive year, Gravity Wave, the largest social and circular economy organisation in Spain focused on the recovery of the oceans by cleaning up marine plastic, brought together companies, fishermen, ports and influential agents of society to recognise their involvement and commitment to the mission of achieving a plastic-free ocean.

The awards ceremony took place on 1st February at CaixaForum in Valencia and brought together more than 200 professionals representing companies such as MINI, imagin, Estimar Hoteles, ISDIN, B&B Hotels and Real Betis Balompié & Reale Seguros, among others. LedsC4 was the only company in its sector - lighting - to be nominated for these awards and finally won the award for Best 360º Project with Ona, its creative installation at the last Grec Festival in Barcelona.

Ona generated a play of light and shadows by means of 14 recycled plastic panels 2 metres high, located in the central corridor of the Teatre Grec Gardens, in Montjuïc. Conceptually, the flashes of light in the waves of the sea were reinterpreted and the illusion of movement was generated thanks to previously programmed lighting scenes.

Gravity Wave is a social project that was born at the end of 2019 by the hand of Julen Rodríguez and Amaia Rodríguez, and that only in 2023 has collected more than 450.000kg of plastic waste from seas and ports, looking for a positive impact on the planet. In the ONA project, LedsC4 decided to join the #plasticfreeoceans commitment by collecting the equivalent of 98,505 plastic bottles from the Mediterranean Sea to turn them into a light installation in the beautiful gardens of the Teatre Grec in Barcelona in July last year, during the Grec Festival.

Other #plasticfree actions carried out by LedsC4

Laura Monsó, head of the HR department at LedsC4, says that she is proud to receive this recognition for a company that internally is making so many efforts in favour of the circular economy and the reduction of the use of plastic.

"Proof of this is that virtually 100% of our luminaires are now packaged in plastic-free sustainable packaging; we have started using recycled plastic in some of our new design collections and we are moving towards achieving carbon footprint neutrality by 2030".
