ONA: Festival Grec Barcelona 2023

ONA: Festival Grec Barcelona 2023

For the 5th consecutive year, LedsC4 has proudly sponsored the Grec Festival in Barcelona, which commenced on 29 June and lasted throughout the month of July. In its 2023 edition, the festival centred around the themes of sustainability and the power of community, drawing inspiration from the words of renowned writer Virginia Woolf: “The individual is to humanity what the wave is to the ocean”.

Inspired by these principles, our lighting design team created a new sustainable installation: ONA.

The project encouraged reflection on the importance of keeping our seas and oceans free from plastic waste. At the same time, ONA (meaning ‘wave’ in Catalan) is a symbol of connection, uniting territories and strengthening the concept of community emphasised by the festival.

The installation created a play of lights and shadows, aiming to simulate the shimmering light in the sea’s waves through pre-programmed lighting scenes on our outdoor Cube Pro collection. These scenes were projected onto 14 panels made from recycled plastic, each measuring 2 metres in height and 1 metre in width, in green and blue hues, which were placed along the central walkway of the Gardens of the Teatre Grec.

To immerse the entire garden in the project, the company also used the Cube outdoor collection for the pergola area and the Tron collection for the restaurant façade’s lighting, both programmed in a blue hue.

The new portable luminaire, Orbit, designed by Luca Turrini and recently presented in Milan, as well as the portable luminaires Cocktail and Portobello, were chosen to illuminate the restaurant tables.

For this project, LedsC4 collaborated with the Gravity Wave association, a social initiative launched in late 2019 that has since collected over 140,000 kg of plastic waste from seas and ports, aiming to make a positive impact on the planet. For the ONA project, LedsC4 has joined the #plasticfreeoceans commitment by collecting the equivalent of 98,505 plastic bottles from the Mediterranean Sea.
